Please note: The DT Makerspace will close on August 19 to prepare equipment for the new Indian Creek Library.

What type of equipment does the Makerspace have for video or audio recording and photography?
We have a wall mounted green screen and lighting on tripods, which may be used in taking photos and creating videos. We have an iPad and a Sony Digital HD Video Camera Recorder for your use. Some other equipment available for during your time in the Makerspace include: desktop microphone stands, microphone extender, phone & tablet stands, 3.5 lapel microphone (single & dual head), iRig (Pre, Acoustic & Cast), iRig microphone 3.5 mm plug, CAD U! USB microphone, tripods for tablets and microphone stands.

What is a green screen?
A green screen is a tool used for photography and video production. The background is removed from a video or photo and replaced with another image or video but the foreground subject is kept in place (Think a photo of you and your friends on the moon).Green screens are used by professional filmmakers and photographers to create a replica composition during the production process.

What do I need to bring for my time using the green screen?
We recommend that you bring a flash drive or have a cloud service to save videos or photos you work on, as the devices are public, and personal material may not be saved on them. Flash drives are available for $5 at the Information Desk.

Can I bring in my own equipment?
Please do! We don’t provide props, but you can bring you own as long as you can carry it in the building and it does not risk harm to yourself, others or the room.

Any tips to know ahead before coming in to use the green screen and equipment?
Make sure no one wears green or they will look ghostly (unless that is the look you are going for!). Also be careful not to hit the green screen during filming or it will ripple.
