Reservation Information

  • Roland TrueVIS VG3-540 large format inkjet printer/cutter

Customers may reserve up to two hours per session, with a limit of one session per day.

Material Availability

The Lab provides the following materials for purchase:

  • White adhesive vinyl (glossy or matte finish)

  • Semi-adhesive Wall Flair vinyl

  • Matte paper

  • Lightweight banner material

  • Canvas

  • Heat transfer material with transfer masking

Costs

Charges for printing on the Roland are based on the linear foot of output material, with prices varying by material type. See the Lab Price Guide for current prices. All measurements are rounded up to the nearest foot, so a print measuring 5 ft., 3 in. is rounded up to 6 ft. Each print requires an additional 4 to 6 inches of lead space, included in the total measurement.

File Requirements

Almost any file type is compatible, but vector formats such as SVG, EPS, and PDF are ideal. Other file types such as JPG can work if the resolution is high enough, though enlarging raster images may cause pixelation. PNG is not supported by VersaWorks.

Media rolls that are 30" wide have a maximum printable width of 28" to allow for side margins. Some materials are available in 54", with a maximum printable width of 52".

Design Software Availability

The printer uses VersaWorks, but for file creation you must use other software. Laptops with Corel Draw, a file creation and editing software, are available for borrowing in The Lab during your visit. Alternatively, you can use browser-based software like Canva from home or other library computers. Inkscape is also recommended for home computer use.

Design Assistance

Makerspace staff can help you get started, but the space is primarily a DIY area designed for you to explore and experiment. Staff may be assisting other customers simultaneously and are unable to give long one on one tutorials.
