COVID-19 Updates

Temporary Olathe Library  now open! Additional services resume.

The temporary Olathe Library location at 1078A W. Santa Fe is now open. This temporary space replaces the location at 201 E. Park St. and will serve as the library's home until a new and permanent library opens in downtown Olathe (projected opening 2022).

The Olathe Library will join the Indian Creek Library in offering the following hours: 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday; 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday and 1 pm to 5 pm on Sunday. The first hour of each weekday (9 am to 10 am) will be reserved for library customers at higher risk for severe illness, including adults age 65 and older, pregnant women and those who have underlying medical conditions.

In addition to browsing, self-check outs, and curbside/indoor hold pick up, the library will resume the following services:

  • Staff assistance with book recommendations and requesting materials
  • Staff assistance by phone
  • New library cards
  • In-person fine payments (including cash payments)
  • Public computers (customers limited to one hour per day due to decreased computer availability)
  • Limited seating areas for WiFi use
  • Printing, copying and faxing
  • goLibrary
  • Notary services at Indian Creek by appointment
  • Video phone access for Deaf and hard of hearing customers at Indian Creek

To allow for proper quarantining of library materials, returns will be accepted in the outside drop boxes only. Play areas, children's game computers, study rooms, the Lab, the Zone, the Studio, the Friends bookstore and the café will remain closed.

Face masks or cloth face coverings are now required to be worn inside the Olathe Public Libraries, in accordance with Kansas Governor Laura Kelly's statewide order and the Board of County Commissioners’ July 2 vote to uphold the order. The mask requirement applies to all customers, volunteers and Library staff unless otherwise exempted.

We also ask that all visitors to our buildings continue to follow recommended preventative measures, such as physical distancing of at least six feet, frequent hand-washing or sanitizing, and staying home if you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19.

Staff will continue intensive surface cleaning inside the building, hand sanitizer will be available to customers, and library materials will be quarantined for 72 hours before being recirculated.

Mask FAQs

Will the Library be providing masks to customers, staff and volunteers?
We will have disposable masks available in for customer use but we encourage you to bring your own. Cloth masks have been provided to all staff and volunteers.
How are we letting visitors know about the mask requirement in our buildings?
In addition to this email and notifications on our website and social media channels, we will have signs at our entry points and throughout our buildings stating that masks are required per the governor’s executive order.
Who is exempt from wearing a mask?
The governor’s order lists several exemptions to the mask order, including:
  • Persons age five years or under
  • Persons with a medical condition, mental health condition, or disability that prevents wearing a face covering
  • Persons who are deaf or hard of hearing, or communicating with a person who is deaf or hard of hearing
  • If you cannot wear a mask, we ask that you maintain six feet of distance between staff and other customers.
