National Library Card Sign-Up Month

Have you ever heard the trivia fact that there are more libraries in the United States than there are McDonald’s?  Hard to believe, right?  Well, according to the American Library Association there are 16,568 public libraries in the U.S., and that’s not even counting 659 bookmobiles. But what about Mickey D’s?  In 2017 there were 14,027 McDonald’s restaurants in the U.S. So libraries win! Woohoo! And if you include libraries of all kinds, such as school libraries, academic libraries, and various specialized libraries, the number skyrockets to 119.487! Wow! Imagine how many books that must be.

September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month. If you don’t have a library card, what are you waiting for? With a library card you can:

  • check out all kinds of books, DVDs, music CDs, video games, and CD audiobooks
  • download eBooks, audiobooks, and magazines
  • stream music and watch movies online
  • use computers and free WiFi at the library
  • get homework help from a live online tutor
  • and much more

And best of all, it’s FREE!

So visit either location of the Olathe Public Library and get your library card today. If you are under 16, you will need your parent or guardian with you to get a card. And in case you didn't know, your OPL library card can also be used at any Johnson County Library location. What a deal!
