The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart
Frankie is a good girl who wants to be bad. As a returning sophomore to her exclusive boarding school, Frankie has blossomed over the summer and now has “curves in all the right places”. As a result she catches the attention of senior, Matthew, who Frankie finds out is the leader of a secret society called The Order of the Basset Hound. Frankie, tired of being excluded and underestimated by the boys, decides to infiltrate The Order. The pranks and protests, coordinated by Frankie under cover of a fake email address, are ingenious and funny. Frankie is obviously frustrated by being discounted because she is a girl, but she gets her revenge.
The story is amusing and clever, however I was a little put off ocassionally by Frankie’s whiny, girly attitude, but I think that’s just me. And the private boarding school setting gave me a glimpse into a different lifestyle. All in all a good girl-power story.
