Summer Reading Program

Our summer is winding down.  Be sure to bring back your summer reading folder to the library by August 12 to receive your free book.  We hope you had fun this summer and read some great books!

 

Fall Storytimes

The Olathe Public Library offers a variety of storytimes for children ages 5 and younger.  No registration is required, but space may be limited.  For some storytimes, tickets will be handed out 15 minutes before the program begins.  We encourage you to determine which storytime session is most appropriate for your child and family.

Music with Mar. is an interactive program of music and movement, including rhythm, story, puppets, and a little sign language.  Adults must attend with their preschoolers.  Program will last about 30 minutes.

HOMESCHOOL LEGO CLUB - For homeschoolers ages 5 - 11 (grades K - 5th)

Are you a kid in kindergarten through 5th grade who loves building with LEGO bricks? Be a part of our monthly Afterschool LEGO Club! Enjoy a small snack as you hear about the month's special theme.  We'll then turn you loose on the library's LEGO collection to build something awesome and let you show off your creation before you leave.  Program will last about an hour.
PARENTS: To allow as many children as possible to experience LEGO Club, please sign your child up for ONLY one LEGO Club meeting per calendar month.

BABY BOOK EXPLORERS - For newborn to 24 months + adult

Come to the library with your baby (aged newborn to 24 months) to read and play the "6 by 6" way!  A board book will be shared along with tips on how to foster "6 Skills by 6 YearsP literacy at home.  Adults and children will be given time to explore their take-home copies of the book together.  Each session will culminate with play as children engage in various activities and manipulatives.  Program will last about 45 minutes.

Come play with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics)!  Children, and the adults who bring them, will explore these concepts in creative ways through engaging activities.  We will explore amazing books, watch spectacular demonstrations, sing silly songs, create works of art, and participate with exciting hands-on stations.  No registration, but space is limited.  Tickets will be handed out 15 minutes before program begins.  Program will last about an hour.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY H.A. REY: A CURIOUS GEORGE CELEBRATION! - For all ages

It's a birthday party!  Drop in and celebrate Curious George at a party for the curious monkey's creator, H.A. Rey.  The party will begin with a reading of Curious George, and follow with fun crafts and activities, including "Pin the Banana on the Tree."  No registration.  Come and go as you please.

MAKE A MEMORY BOX - For K - 5th graders

Drop in to create a personalized memory box perfect for storing your small treasures and mementos, and learn about the Santa Fe Trail.  Program is inspired by the American Girl character Josefina and presented in conjunction with Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.  No registration, but supplies are limited.  Come and go as you please.

FRIDAY FISH TALES @ STAGECOACH PARK - For preschoolers + adult

Come to Stagecoach Park by the Olathe Community Center for a free 30 minute preschool storytime provided by the Olathe Public Library.  No registration required.  In case of bad weather, the storytime will be held inside the community center.

FAMILY CHESS NIGHT - For all ages

10:00 a.m. at Walnut Grove One-Room Schoolhouse, 11800 S. Pflumm Rd., Olathe, KS

In celebratioin of National Grandparents Day, the Olathe Public LIbrary is partnering with the Kansas City Senior Theatre for an intergenerational program at the Walnut Grove One-Room Schoolhouse.  Actors, storytellers, musicians, and puppeteers will lead interactive games and activities, reenacting scenes, and engaging participants in laughter and fun of "a day at school."  This is a family program for elementary age children and their parents or grandparents.  Adults must attend with children.  Program will last about an hour.

JUNIOR MAKERS - For 1st - 5th graders

Do you enjoy making things?  Join us for the Junior Makers program, where you will have the chance to create.  Each session will feature a different project and the chance to learn something new.  This session will feature art-bots.  Program will last about an hour.
