FREE COMIC BOOK DAY - For K - 5th graders

Kids in K - 5th grade:  Be a part of Free Comic Book Day! Come to the Children's Services Desk at the Main Library starting at 10:00 a.m. and pick up a FREE kid-friendly comic book for you to keep! Supplies are limited. While you're here, check out the library's awesome collection of comics and graphic novels, which are free to borrow every day. (Comics availabe while supplies last; supply is limited.  Comics will also be available for teens and adults.) OPL thanks our partner, Elite Comics in Overland Park, for procuring our free comics. 

READ TO A DOG - For young readers of all ages

Children of all ages may drop by the library and read to a cuddly canine between 1:30 and 2:30 on the dates listed above. Come to the Children's Desk upon arrival and check in for a reading time. Reading sessions are limited and will be available on a first come, first served basis. No advanced registration necessary. For more information, call (913) 971-6874. Trained therapy dogs provided by Pets for Life, Inc.

STORY EXPLORERS - For K - 2nd graders + adult

Monday, May 4
4:30 p.m. at Olathe Indian Creek

Come play with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics)!  Children, and the adults who bring them, will explore these concepts in creative ways through engaging activities.  We will explore amazing books, watch spectacular demonstrations, sing silly songs, create works of art, and participate with exciting hands-on stations.  No registration, but space is limited.  Tickets will be handed out 15 minutes before program begins.  Program will last about an hour.

Come play chess with a worthy opponent at our Family Chess Nights. Boards and equipment will be provided. All ages and playing levels welcome, but kindergartners and younger must be accompanied by an adult. No registration.

FRIDAY FISH TALES - For preschoolers & their families

Friday, May 8
9:30 a.m. at Stagecoach Park by the Olathe Community Center

Come to Stagecoach Park for a free 30 minute preschool storytime provided by the Olathe Public Library. No registration required. In case of rain, the storytime will be held inside the community center.

All storytime participants will receive a coupon for $1 off admission for open swim until 2:30 p.m. that same day. For more information please call the Olathe Community Center at (913) 971-8563.
