Let's Dance. Come shake, shimmy, and dance up a storm at our preschool dance party, featuring favorite songs from our children's music collection.  No registration, but space is limited.  Prgram will last about 20 - 30 minutes.

SATURDAY STORYTIME - For preschoolers & their families

Families with young children are invited to Saturday Storytime!  Stories will be geared to 3 - 5 year olds, but everyone is welcome to enjoy songs, rhymes, books and early literacy activities. No registration.  Storytime will last about 30 minutes.
NOTE:  This storytime will feature different books than the weekday storytimes.

READ TO A DOG - For young readers of all ages

Children of all ages may drop by the library and read to a cuddly canine between 1:30 and 2:30 on the dates listed above. Come to the Children's Desk upon arrival and check in for a reading time. Reading sessions are limited and will be available on a first come, first served basis. No advanced registration necessary. For more information, call (913) 971-6874. FAMILY CHESS NIGHTS - For all ages

Do you LOVE books and reading? Are you in grades 3 - 5? Join a club for kids who love reading, sharing, and learning more about books!  Each month we'll share a quick pizza dinner, talk about books we've read (or are reading), and enjoy a surprise reading-related activity together.  Please bring a copy of a book you've enjoyed recently to the program (preferably a book the OPL owns, but it doesn't have to be) and be prepared to tell us a little bit about it—without giving away too much of the story!  Program will last about 90 minutes.

BABY BOOK EXPLORERS - For newborn to 24 months + adult

Come to the library with your baby (aged newborn to 24 months) to read and play the "6 by 6" way!  A board book will be shared along with tips on how to foster "6 Skills by 6 YearsP literacy at home.  Adults and children will be given time to explore their take-home copies of the book together.  Each session will culminate with play as children engage in various activities and manipulatives.  Program will last about 45 minutes.

FRIDAY FISH TALES @ STAGECOACH PARK - For preschoolers + adult

9:30 a.m. at Stagecoach Park by the Olathe Community Center, 1205 E. Kansas City Road, Olathe, KS

Come to Stagecoach Park by the Olathe Community Center for a free 30 minute preschool storytime provided by the Olathe Public Library.  No registration required.  In case of bad weather, the storytime will be held inside the community center.

STAR WARS READS DAY 2015 - For all ages

Star Wars fans of all ages are invited to celebrate Star Wars Reads Day.  Drop in anytime from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon for crafts, activities, costumed visitors, and displays throughout the Downtown Library that celebrate Star Wars and reading.  Costumes are encouraged!!  No registration.  Come and go as you please.

Do you enjoy making things?  Join us for the Junior Makers program, where you will have the chance to create.  Each session will feature a different project and the chance to learn something new.  This session will feature origami.  Program will last about an hour.
