READ TO A DOG - For young readers of all ages

Young readers of all ages may drop by and read to a cuddly canine at Indian Creek Library between 1:20 - 2:30 p.m.  Upon arrival, check in at Children's Services for a reading time.  Reading sessions will be limited and available on a first come, first served basis.  Trained therapy dogs provided by Pets for LIfe, Inc.

FAMILY CHESS NIGHT - For all ages

Come play chess with a worthy opponent at our Family Chess Nights. Boards and equipment will be provided. All ages and playing levels welcome, but kindergartners and younger must be accompanied by an adult. No registration.

This is a book discussion group where children and adults read the book together.  We will be reading Mr. Popper's Penguins by Richard Atwater.  Both child and adult should read the book and come prepared to discuss it.  Copies of the book will be provided and must be picked up at the Downtown Library.  Program will last about an hour.

PRESCHOOL DANCE PARTY - For ages 5 & younger with adult

Let's dance!  Come shake, shimmy, and dance up a storm at our preschool dance party, featuring favorite songs from our children's music collection.  No registration, but space is limited.  Tickets will be handed out on a first come, first served basis starting 30 minutes before the program.  Program will last 20 - 30 minutes.

VOTE FOR BOOKS - For 5th grade & younger

October 10 - November 8
All day, every day @ Downtown & Indian Creek

Election Day is coming!  Drop in during library hours October 10 - November 8 to vote for your favorite book characters.  Voting will enter you in a drawing for a free book.  One vote per child, please.  Votes will be tallied metro-wide!

KIDS CODE WITH SCRATCH - For 3rd - 5th grade

Make something from Scratch, a computer programming language designed for kids!  Children in third through fifth grade will work together to create various projects, such as simple animations.  Program will last about an hour.

EVENING LEGO CLUB - For K - 5th grade

Are you a kid in kindergarten through 5th grade who loves building with LEGO bricks?  Be a part of our monthly Evening LEGO Club.  Each month we'll introduce a different theme, turn you loose on the library's LEGO collection to build something awesome, then let you show off your creation before you leave.  Program will last about hour.  
PARENTS:  To allow as many children as possible to experience LEGO Club, please sign up your child for only one LEGO Club session per calendar month.

MAKE AN OWL CRAFT - For 5th grade & younger

Whooo likes to craft?  Come make a paper plate owl to take home and decorate your space.  Preschoolers may need some assistance from their adults to complete the craft.  No registration.  Come and go as you please.

A STAR WARS EVENING AT THE LIBRARY - For all ages

Star Wars fans of all ages are invited to celebrate a Star Wars Evening at the Library.  Drop in anytime between 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. for crafts, activities, and displays that celebrate Star Wars in the Children's Department at the Downtown Library.  Costumes are encouraged!!

FISH TALES @ STAGECOACH PARK - For ages 5 & younger with adult

Come to Stagecoach Park by the Olathe Community Center for a free 30 minute storytime.  The Olathe Public Library and the Olathe Community Center present a morning of stories, songs and play.  In case of bad weather, the storytime will be held inside the community center (1205 E. Kansas City Road).  No registration required for the storytime.  For a small fee you can stay for a special Me & Mini Me Swim.  For more information on this program please call the Olathe Community Center at (913) 971-8563.

Chidlren, and the adults who bring them, will listen to a story and then explore STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) concepts related to that story.  Possibilities are endless!  We may craft a paper taco, use science to explore colors, play with slime, or build a house.  No registration, but space is limited.  Tickets will handed out 15 minutes before each program begins.  Program will last about an hour.
