FAMILY CHESS NIGHTS - For all ages

Come play chess with a worthy opponent at our Family Chess Nights. Boards and equipment will be provided. All ages and playing levels welcome, but kindergartners and younger must be accompanied by an adult. No registration.

HOMESCHOOL LEGO CLUB - For homeschoolers ages 5 - 11 (grades K - 5th)

Join us for our monthly LEGO Club for homeschoolers! Each month we'll have a new theme, and you can have fun building with bricks provided by the library. Each session will last about an hour. 

RAISING A READER - 6 BY 6 LITERACY SKILLS - For ages 5 & younger with adult

Wednesdays, January 27 - April 27 (except March 16)

Ready, set, grow a reader! Bring your young children to our meeting room to help grow their pre-reading skills as you interact together with educational toys and books. No registration. Come and go as you please.

WHO IS FRODE?? - For children ages 4 - 11 and parents

Come share an imaginary friend book-making adventure with Carie Beth Russell and Emily Stout.  Get to know the imaginary Frode (invented by Carie Beth's daughter) and hear about his mischievous antics and adventures in an original story.  Children will enjoy hearing the story read aloud and participate in creating some illustrations for the story.  This is an interactive read-aloud opportunity for kids ages 4 - 11.  Preschoolers must be accompanied by an adult.  No registration but space is limited.  Program will last about an hour.

READ TO A DOG - For young readers of all ages

Saturday, February 6
1:30 - 2:30 p.m at Indian Creek

Children of all ages may drop by the library and read to a cuddly canine between 1:30 and 2:30 on the dates listed above. Come to the Children's Desk upon arrival and check in for a reading time. Reading sessions are limited and will be available on a first come, first served basis. No advanced registration necessary. For more information, call (913) 971-6874. Trained therapy dogs provided by Pets for Life, Inc.

AFTERSCHOOL LEGO CLUB - For K - 5th graders

Are you a kid in kindergarten through 5th grade who loves building with LEGO bricks? Be a part of our monthly Afterschool LEGO Club! Enjoy a small snack as you hear about the month's special theme.  We'll then turn you loose on the library's LEGO collection to build something awesome and let you show off your creation before you leave.  Program will last about an hour.
PARENTS: To allow as many children as possible to experience LEGO Club, please sign your child up for ONLY one LEGO Club meeting per calendar month.

PIZZA & PAGES BOOK LOVERS CLUB - For 3rd - 5th graders

Do you LOVE books and reading? Are you in grades 3 - 5? Join a club for kids who love reading, sharing, and learning more about books!  Each month we'll share a quick pizza dinner, talk about books we've read (or are reading), and enjoy a surprise reading-related activity together.  Please bring a copy of a book you've enjoyed recently to the program (preferably a book the OPL owns, but it doesn't have to be) and be prepared to tell us a little bit about it—without giving away too much of the story!  Program will last about an hour.

Come make an Art Bot!  Art Bots are simple robots that wobble around creating fun designs with markers.  We'll build our robots and then give them a try!  Program will last about an hour.

KIDS CODE WITH SCRATCH - For 3rd - 5th graders

Make something from Scratch, a computer programming language designed for kids!  Children in 3rd through 5th grade will work together to create various projects, such as simple animations.  Program will last about an hour.

BABY BOOK EXPLORERS - For newborn to 24 months + adult

Friday, February 26   *Registration begins Monday, February 15
9:30 a.m. at Downtown

Come to the library with your baby (newborn to 24 months) to read and play the "6 by 6" way!  A board book will be shared with the whole group, after which you will have time to explore your own take-home copy of the book together.  Each session will culminate with play as you and your baby engage in various activities and with sensory manipulatives.  Older siblings are welcome to attend.  Program will last about 45 minutes.

FISH TALES @ STAGECOACH PARK - For ages 5 & younger with adult

Come to Stagecoach Park by the Olathe Community Center for a free 30 minute storytime.  The Olathe Public Library and the Olathe Community Center present a morning of stories, songs and play.  In case of bad weather, the storytime will be held inside the community center (1205 E. Kansas City Road).  No registration required for the storytime.  For a small fee you can stay for a special Me & Mini Me Swim.  For more information on this program please call the Olathe Community Center at (913) 971-8563.
