Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Library work to gain community support for the library activities through volunteer activities, programs and book sales.

Tickets are $15 each and beginning Tuesday, March 1, will be available for purchase at the information desks at both Olathe libraries.

Speaker Megan Felt will speak about the high school project that lead her
and two other students to uncover an unknown Holocaust hero, Irene Sendler,
who saved more than 2,000 children from the Warsaw Ghetto.

The scholarship honors Curtis Gilmore, who distinguished himself as an Olathe Public Library volunteer from 2003 - 2005.  He was a senior at Olathe North High School when he passed on February 10, 2007.

It is open to all graduating seniors who have completed 100 volunteer hours for the Olathe Public
Library between 8th – 12th grades. (Service hours may begin the summer before entering 8th
grade). The 100 hours may be completed by March 31, 2016.

Applications with accompany essays can be mailed or hand delivered, but must be received by 5 pm, Thursday, April 21, 2016, to the Community Relations Coordinator in the Admnistration Office
at the Olathe Downtown Library, 201 E. Park, Olathe KS.

The Friends board funds the scholarships through the annual Novel Tea held the last four years.

The Friends of the Library welcome book sale donations throughout the year. There are drop off receptacles inside both libraries. If you would like to receive a letter confirming your donations for tax purposes, pick up a form at the check-out desk at either library.

PLEASE NOTE: We love receiving donations, but large donations of materials must be placed in sturdy boxes, not in large plastic trash bags.  If donations arrive in large plastic trash bags, they will not be accepted.  Thank you for your consideration.

Materials we do accept:
Books, Paperbacks, DVDs, Books on CD, Music CDs, Videos & Cassettes
Children and teen books
Textbooks
Reader's Digest Condensed Books
Club Romance Paperbacks less than five years
Magazines of historic interest - Time, Look, etc.

Materials we do not accept:
Club Romance paperbacks older than five years
Computer materials 
Materials that are musty or damp
Encyclopedia sets
Magazines except those listed above
