During a reception on June 22 at the Downtown Library, youth volunteers Emma Clark and Michael Hund were each awarded a $500 scholarship in memory of Gilmore, an active youth volunteer who passed in 2007, shortly before graduating from Olathe North High School.
Clark started volunteering at an early age with her mother and brother at the Olathe Indian Creek Library in 2004 and completed 450 hours. She and her mother each received the Nancy Quinlisk Chandler Volunteer of the year award in 2013. Clark is an Olathe East High School graduate and will attend the University of Tulsa.
Hund began volunteering at the Downtown Library in 2010 and has competed 354 hours. He has completed a variety of tasks at the library and in addition, has helped with the Friends book sales, farmer’s market, Novel Tea and the Olathe Arts Festival. He is a graduate of Olathe Northwest High School and will be attending Johnson County Community College in the fall.
The Friends board funds the scholarships through the annual Novel Tea held the last three years.
