Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Library work to gain community support for the library activities through volunteer activities, programs and book sales.

Friends Annual Meeting - January 26, 2015 @ 6 pm in the Children's Programming Room at the Downtown Library, 201 E. Park.  Attend to find out what the Friends have accomplished in 2014.

A proposed change in the by-laws will be voted on at the annual meeting. 

ARTICLE IV.            OFFICERS AND THEIR DUTIES
Section 1.    The officers of the organization shall be President, Vice-President, Recording Secretary and Treasurer.  Officers shall be elected at the annual meeting and shall take office at the close of the meeting.  Terms shall be for two years or until successors are elected.  No person shall serve more than two consecutive terms in any one office.  There are no restrictions on the number of terms that can be served in each office.

2015 Novel Tea - April 25 from 2 - 4 pm at the Indian Creek Community Church

Terence Michael O'Malley, author of Nelly Don: A Stitch in Time, will speak about Nelly, one of the first and most successful self-made women millionaires in American business.  She designed and sold more dresses in the 20th century than any other single person in the United States.

Friends News

At the 2014 Volunteer Recognition Dinner, Friends of Kansas Libraries President, Carolyn Little traveled to present Friends Member and volunteer, Sharon Markey with the "Outstanding Individual Friend Award." Sharon was chosen for this state-wide award for her activities in support of community libraries in 2013.  

Earlier this year, the Friends of the Library presented two $500 Curtis Gilmore Memorial Scholarships. Pictured are Tobi Gbile, Friends president Colette McGee, and Courtney Harris. Tobi is attending the University of Chicago and Courtney is at the University of Kansas. Congratulations to our 2014 Curtis Gilmore Memorial Scholarship Winners!

The Curtis Gilmore Memorial Scholarship is presented to graduating seniors that have completed at least 40 hours of volunteer work with the library. Check back in early 2015 for information on how you to apply.
 

Friends Book Sales

The Friends of the Library welcome book sale donations throughout the year. There are drop off receptacles inside both libraries. If you would like to receive a letter confirming your donations for tax purposes, pick up a form at the check-out desk at either library.

Donation Guidelines

Materials we do accept:
Books, DVDs, Books on CD, music CDs, Videos & Cassettes
Children and teen books
Textbooks 
Only magazines of historic interest - Time, Look, etc.

Materials we do not accept:
Club Romance paperbacks older than five years
Computer materials 
Materials that are musty or damp
Encyclopedia sets
Reader's Digest Condensed Books
