Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Library work to gain community support for the library activities through volunteer activities, programs and book sales.

2016 Curtis Gilmore Memorial Scholarshp
At a reception held in their honor, Julian Cooley and Libby Corkran were each awarded a $500
Curtiis Gilmore Memorial Scholarship.  The scholarship is open to all graduating seniors who 
have worked a minimum of 100 library volunteer hours between the 8th - 12th grades.
Proceeds from the Friends annual Novel Tea fund these scholarships.

Julian was a volunteer at the Indian Creek Library and contributed 100 hours from 2012 - 2016,  
He is a 2016 graduate of Olathe East High School and will be attending Texas Christian University
and studying biology on a pre-medical track.

Libby, also a long-time volunteer at the Indian Creek Library, worked an impressive 166.25 hours from 2013 - 2015.  She is an Olathe East High School graduate and will attend Kansas State University.  
She plans on studying animal science and would like to become a veterinarian.

The Friends of the Library welcome book sale donations throughout the year. There is a drop off receptacle inside the downtown library at 201 E. Park. If you would like to receive a letter confirming your donations for tax purposes, pick up a form at the info desk.

PLEASE NOTE: We love receiving donations, but large donations of materials must be placed in sturdy boxes, not in large plastic trash bags.  If donations arrive in large plastic trash bags, they will not be accepted.  Thank you for your consideration.

Donation Guidelines
Materials we do accept:
Books, Paperbacks, DVDs, Books on CD, Music CDs, Videos & Cassettes
Children and teen books
Reader's Digest Condensed Books
Club Romance Paperbacks less than five years
Magazines of historic interest - Time, Look, etc.

Materials we do not accept:
Club Romance paperbacks older than five years
Computer materials 
Materials that are musty or damp
Encyclopedia sets
Magazines except those listed above
