Policy
The Library
The Olathe Public Library is a distinct legal entity which provides library service to the citizens of Olathe, Kansas. It is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the Mayor of Olathe. Funding is provided primarily through local tax levies with help from state aid and local contributions.
Statement of Library Mission
The Library actively pursues a role as the primary information center in the community. Accurate and useful information is provided to the citizenry through the use of technology and resource materials. Further emphasis is placed upon young children and their families through materials and services which will encourage reading and lifelong learning. In addition, the Library features current, high-demand materials of popular interest for users all ages in various formats.
Service Goals
- Collections of the library reflect the informational and popular reading needs of the community.
- Children, young adults and their families are offered a wide range of services and programs to select from.
- Library patrons access and circulate materials which are organized in an efficient manner.
- Patrons are provided timely, accurate and useful information through the use of all available information resources and technologies.
- Library materials are obtained and processed in an orderly, timely fashion which reflect currently accepted library standards and procedures.
Management Goals
- The community is well informed about library services.
- The library recruits, trains and maintains the most competent staff available.
- Library administrative procedures and organization provide sufficient framework for library operations.
- Well maintained library facilities reflect the emphasis of library services and are reasonably accessible to the community.
