Effective Date
December 18, 1996 (Rev. 8/21/02; 10/16/02; 8/18/04)
Summary
This document contains the Library's position regarding exhibit and display requests.
Policy
- The Library owns two lateral display cases. One lateral display case is available to members of the public or to community organizations when the library deems the exhibit educational or informative in nature and of general or specific interest, as outlined in the Olathe Public Library Collection Development Policy. The second lateral display case is reserved for library use.
- When the theme of the display deals with a political, social or controversial issue, the display should provide impartial information stating the facts of the situation. The library administration reserves the right to judge the appropriateness of any items displayed and to remove the display or any items deemed inappropriate.
- The Administrative Library Assistant will schedule and coordinate the public museum case. The lateral display case may be scheduled on a first come, first served basis. Reservations may be made up to three months in advance. If the group or organization that made the reservation does not have its display in place by the third day of its reservation, the space will become available for other groups.
- The main library also owns two vertical display cases located in the children's and adult departments. Children's and adult staff coordinate exhibits based on library use only. Likewise, the branch library owns a vertical display case with exhibits coordinated by branch staff for library use only.
- Contents of the library display cases are the sole responsibility of the exhibitor. The library is not responsible for loss/damage to exhibitor contents.
